Proper Hotel Portland – A Rich Environment Deserving of Exceptional Signage

Introducing Waypoint Sign Company, a design/build organization that creates thoughtful signage for special spaces

While our company name states that we are signage developers, we like to think of ourselves as environment creators. Waypoint Sign Company designs, fabricates and installs signage across the US, it is true. But, we do so with the understanding that what we are really doing is helping to create an environment, a vibe AND a sense of place.  Signage can be the code-required numbers and letters on the wall, or signage can be an important element in creating places where people simply want to be. At Waypoint, we believe that signage supports placemaking, and we’re committed to helping our clients bring their project stories to life.  We’d be delighted to talk with the team at The Kor Group to see how we can help weave the story of the Portland Proper Hotel.

A quick sampling of our custom signage work includes:

SUITE AND AMENITY IDS THAT ADD TO AN UPSCALE VIBE

This custom wayfinding package was designed and fabricated for a very high-end Bay Area residential community targeted at empty nesters. Leveraging natural, stained wood, individual signs included a routered logo and raised brass letters for a high-touch look and feel.

ELEVATOR LOBBY SIGNAGE THAT TELLS A STORY

The Talisman is a residential community in Redmond, Washington that seeks to attract a highly educated, tech workforce. A clever development story plays out in all of the building signage, speaking to the concept of a talisman, or lucky charm. This elevator lobby sign gives an impression of more expensive metals, but leverages painted acrylic and gold anodized aluminum sheet.

BOLD SUITE IDS CREATE A STATEMENT

It is possible for suite IDs to be rich with character yet ADA compliant. This residential high-rise in Seattle, Washington wanted to create a high-end experience but with some personality and funk. Our team worked with them to create individual bronze letters adhered to an existing steel door surround with accompanying braille applied on its own matching steel backer. Cool yet, ADA compliant.

SIGNAGE CREATES OLD WORLD CHARM IN A NEW DEVELOPMENT

The Perry is a top-of-the-market new high-rise community set in a historic urban neighborhood of tree-lined streets and mansions. The signage design draws from the surrounding historic neighborhood with features that provide a nod to elements such as wrought iron, yet with a budget friendly execution. The client’s goal was to not only speak to the neighborhood, but also to create a hospitality feel in a residential community.

SLEEK MODERN SUITE SIGNAGE COMPLEMENTS SLENDER HIGH-RISE

An urban project, this 42-story tower presents itself as a tall, glass and steel form.  As such, the interior signage offers a sleek, sophisticated and engineered complement to the overall development. Suite IDs are created from formed, cold-rolled steel with raised numbers and braille, ensuring ADA compliance.

PLAYFUL ELEVATOR LOBBY CREATES A SENSE OF ARRIVAL

This client wanted to create a sense of drama for individuals as they exited the elevator onto the 41st floor of this upscale high-rise building. The intriguing result is comprised of painted picture frames and individual painted numbers.  Simple, but fun!

SIGNAGE SUPPORTS THE BLENDING OF NEW AND OLD

We love when we have the opportunity to work on adaptive re-use projects and developments that incorporate elements from historic buildings that previously lived on a site. The developer of this project retained the project façade and to complement this important decision, he wanted to truly mix reclaimed (or seemingly reclaimed) elements with new and modern objects and materials throughout the building interior.  As such, the signage package includes a mix of steel and back-printed acrylic. Suite IDs create visual interest in long hallways with a bent piece of steel that supports laser-jetted numbers.

OH, AND WE DO EXTERIOR SIGNAGE TOO

While the focus of this piece is interior signage, we’d be remiss in not mentioning that we create exterior signage too! This sample sign showcases a canopy-mounted property ID sign that presents itself as solid stainless letters. In reality, the sign is fabricated from stainless sheet welded together and then polished to a mirror finish. The 20″ tall letters make a strong statement on the city sidewalk.
