A reimagined entry sign for a rapidly changing neighborhood

Over the past 10 years, West Seattle has changed dramatically, with an influx of new multi-family and mixed-use developments adding to density and introducing new local and national retailers.  The primary entry point to the West Seattle community is via the West Seattle Bridge. A monument sign that has always been celebrated by the entire community sits at this entry point.  The sign has been, and once again is, a source of pride for the neighborhood on the peninsula. As the existing sign was tired and no longer represented the dynamic neighborhood beyond, the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce chose to redesign and replace the sign. Waypoint coordinated with the Chamber as local businesses and residents provided feedback and opinions throughout the design and fabrication process. The resulting sign speaks to the signature vistas from the neighborhood – the Puget Sound, Elliott Bay, the Cascade and Olympic Mountains.
