A large-scale mixed-use development honoring Seattle’s outdoor recreation passion

Inspired by the outdoors-oriented ethos of Seattle’s eclectic West Seattle neighborhood, LMC designed and developed a storied building that anchors the gateway to the community’s retail district. A large-scale mixed-use development, The Whittaker offers 389-units and 70,000 SF of retail including a Whole Foods Market. The development is named for neighborhood native Jim Whittaker, who not only was the first American to reach the summit of Mt. Everest in 1963, but who was also the first full-time employee and CEO of Seattle-based outdoor retailer REI. The building, and the signage within it, blends modern living with the outdoor rugged nature of the Pacific Northwest. Waypoint was very pleased to support LMC’s success with a full custom signage solution including wayfinding, ADA, code and exterior signage. Our firm also executed marketing signage to welcome the West Seattle community to The Whittaker. Weber Thompson was the architect for the development, and Chinn Construction was the GC.
