A full-block multi-family development focused on sustainability and reflecting a San Juan Islands retreat
South Lake Union has been one of the busiest development areas in the nation, a market where differentiating from the competition has never been more important. Vulcan created Sitka, an exceptional, sustainable project that was inspired by the tranquility of a San Juan Islands retreat. The development’s courtyard is at the heart of the calming, mindful project and reflects the beauty of the northwest and its stunning islands. Included are a “bubbling pond with stepping stones, benches that resemble canoes, driftwood and plantings of Sitka spruce trees.” An innovative treehouse creates a memorable amenity. Waypoint supported the ethos and brand of the development with natural, elegantly rustic signage, including a monument sign that leveraged a large boulder that was sliced to expose patterns in the rock. As a full-block development, wayfinding needed to be carefully considered to engage residents and pedestrians from multiple approaches. Runberg Architecture was the architect for the development and Exxel Pacific was the general contractor.
