Space age-influenced signage? Yes please!

Alta 801 is a new, 337-unit midrise apartment community in the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Completed in January, 2023, the development introduces a stylish and upscale living option with exceptional views of the Capitol and the District’s skyline. Metal and glass, “space age” and modern design are consistent themes in the architecture and interiors. In fact, Hickok Cole, the project’s interior design team notes, “Inspired by the mystery and beauty of space, the amenity spaces bring a celestial vibe to an outdoor courtyard, a boutique fitness center, and high-end coworking lounges.” The Waypoint team was delighted to continue our partnership with Wood Partners providing design, fabrication and installation services for the wayfinding (inclusive of code and ADA signage) and exterior signage for this exceptional Washington D.C. development. Taking cues from the project design teams, our team crafted signage that leveraged a tactile gold material and shiny black acrylic as well as stainless steel braille to add a pop of space age fun. The client wanted oversized unit IDs yet understood the need to meet ADA requirements. An elongated “flag” design provided height and dimension while still ensuring compliance. WDG Architecture was the architect for the development and Wood Partners, a vertically-integrated company, was the GC as well as the developer.
