Honoring the stories of the Boeing Company in a playful yet sophisticated multifamily development
Did you know that The Boeing Company opened its first production facility in Everett, WA in October 1943? In those days the team worked out of an old auto shop to create sections of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. Pretty cool. Things really took off though in 1966 when the 747, then the world’s largest jetliner, began production in the city.
Skotdal Real Estate, a family firm in Everett, turned from their dairy business to the land development business right about the same time as the 747 production line arrived next to Paine Field. So, it only makes sense that they developed a storied project, Aero, which honors Boeing’s past, present and future in Everett.
Aero, a 102-unit, mixed-use development landed in downtown Everett in 2015. The Waypoint design team was inspired by the plane fun of the project, and the ideas flew! The result was an aeronautically-inspired signage package including wayfinding (inclusive of code and ADA signage), environmental graphics and marketing signage. Waypoint provided design, fabrication and installation services.
Johnson Oaklief Architecture & Planning was the architect, and Skotdal Real Estate, a vertically-integrated company was the developer, general contractor and continues to manage the property today.
