Waypoint Sign Company and AMLI Projects

The Waypoint team has been very fortunate to work with AMLI on many projects in the Seattle area. We’ve been engaged to provide wayfinding, code, ADA, exterior and marketing signage for the team’s mid- and high-rise developments. And, in a very collaborative and creative effort, we’ve also developed and installed environmental graphics that help to tell the development’s story. AMLI develops and builds differentiated, unique developments that are the market leaders in every city that they work in. We understand and appreciate the AMLI team’s market position, and as such, work diligently to develop signage that speaks to the building’s character, brand and audience. Signage can be the code-required numbers and letters on the wall, or signage can be an important element in creating places where people simply want to be. At Waypoint, we believe that signage supports placemaking, and we’re committed to helping the AMLI team bring their project stories to life.

Our firm works nationally, and we would love the opportunity to support additional AMLI team members with their signage needs. In order to provide a bit of insight into our work for the company, we have included some quick snippets on some of our AMLI projects.

AMLI ARC – DENNY TRIANGLE, SEATTLE

AMLI Arc is not your typical high-rise building. The sleek tower is the residential portion of a complex, large-scale mixed use development that encompassed both the Class A office of Tilt49, and the 41 story, 410 unit multi-family tower of AMLI Arc. Centered around the concept of a “deconstructed warehouse,” the building interiors and unit characters evolve from the lower levels to the upper levels, culminating in an exceptional 41st floor amenity suite. Waypoint began working with AMLI in the early stages of development to ensure that signage was fully integrated and helped to tell this compelling and differentiated story. Exterior, wayfinding, ADA and code signage as well as environmental graphics were playful yet sophisticated, speaking to the vibe and brand of the building. Waypoint was also involved in the marketing signage for the project including a multi-story large scale vinyl building application, leasing office displays and a clever mobile leasing office that included a specially crafted bicycle that supported a virtual reality viewing opportunity.

AMLI SLU – SOUTH LAKE UNION, SEATTLE

A building that includes architecture inspired by an Airstream? That’s AMLI SLU, a 177-unit mid-rise community Located in the heart of Seattle’s rapidly growing tech neighborhood, South Lake Union, AMLI SLU speaks to the experience of an incredible roadtrip. Waypoint was delighted to work with the AMLI team to execute the exterior, wayfinding, ADA, and code signage as well as environmental graphics for the building. Unit IDs and amenity signage are inspired by the metal curve of the Airstream and environmental graphics tell the story of freedom that life on the road provides. Waypoint also supported the project with marketing signage to assist in driving traffic to this unique and fun building. When the second phase of this project, AMLI SLU2 was being excavated, a mammoth tusk was found. Amazing! The mammoth even took on a personality with a name on Twitter – Lulu Lucky. Environmental graphics in the shared leasing office now tell Lulu’s story in a memorable way. What other apartment building has a Mammoth mascot?

AMLI MARK24 – BALLARD, SEATTLE

Ballard is a Seattle neighborhood with a long, storied past. Home to the Seattle fishing fleet and a Norwegian community, Ballard is a tremendous mix of local restaurants and bars, fishermen, the maritime industry and lutefisk. The land beneath AMLI Mark24 was owned by a family that was involved in the maritime industry, as an outboard motor shop. One of the requirements of the development was that it pay homage to the history in some way. The local AMLI team took this ten steps farther and created an amazing, storied development that celebrates the past, present and future of the Ballard neighborhood. Waypoint was delighted to partner with the AMLI team and executed exterior, wayfinding, ADA and code signage as well as an extensive environmental graphics package. Marketing signage was also provided, helping to create traffic and interest for this 304-unit mid-rise community.

AMLI SPRING DISTRICT – BELLEVUE, WASHINGTON

The Spring District is an area of Bellevue, Washington that has been completely redeveloped, moving from a Safeway distribution center to a high-tech, high-touch TOD community centered around GIX, a University of Washington and the Tsinghua University of Beijing that is supported by Microsoft, and a large Facebook office campus. AMLI Spring District introduced a playful spirit to this live/work/play neighborhood, giving the adjacent tech workers and graduate students a new, fun option. Waypoint was so pleased to be selected as an AMLI partner once again, and executed exterior, wayfinding, code and ADA signage as well as a creative environmental graphics program. Marketing signage was also a deliverable, supporting the lease-up efforts for this 204-unit mid-rise community.
